World’s smallest snowman makes big news

NPL-SNOWMAN-275Proof was at the centre of the widely publicised ‘World’s Smallest Snowman’ campaign from the National Physical Laboratory this month. Originally planned as an image for the lab’s Christmas card, the Proof team came up with the idea of developing the nano-snowman into a seasonal news announcement and picture story for December.

Backed by NPL’s excellent video of the snowman’s creation, the campaign has been an incredible success, generating coverage in most UK national newspapers, technical trade magazines and websites. It has  been covered internationally popping up on CNN and on various other media outlets in Holland, Germany and Canada; and has become a web phenomenon, mentioned on a number of celebrity Twitter sites including Derren Brown, Perez Hilton and the Huffington Post.

A conservative estimate is that over 30 million people have seen it in the past month, not including the potential 2 billion CNN viewers. The NPL website has seen an incredible 690% increase in traffic, the Christmas page has received 53,700 unique visitors, and the Youtube video has been viewed 230,000 times.
